Two techniques and distinct research questions, each with its own data, study design and limitations.
Intermittent point-by-point energy delivery was explored in the below-knee great saphenous vein. All 19 limbs were occluded at one month, with no reported saphenous paresthesia. The small sample, absent comparator and brief follow-up prevent conclusions about comparative benefit.
A 400 μm fiber passed directly through an 18G catheter to treat a 1.5 cm refluxing deep muscle branch. Occlusion was confirmed at three months in one patient. Broader applicability and long-term outcomes remain uncertain.
Identify the reflux source, anatomical constraints and the patient’s concerns before considering a different approach.
Report the sample and follow-up transparently. A technique’s intended mechanism still needs evidence.
Follow-up ultrasound, symptoms and daily function help us understand outcomes and improve care.
